Old Mani: Diablo III Inspired Gradient and Sticks ‘n’ Stones

This mani was better in concept than execution, unfortunately!  I was so excited for Diablo III‘s release, and I simply HAD to decorate my nails to celebrate!  I was going for a flaming, hellish vibe, with Sticks ‘n’ Stones to represent falling ashes over the hellish (rather glittery) pit.  I used a deep red base with red glitter sponged over the top, and then I went ahead and sponged on a matte black gradient over the top.  After I put my SnS over the top, I used a matte coat over the whole mani, since shiny glittery fire and soot isn’t exactly hellish!

My main gripe with the mani was that the black was too clean for the sootish look I was going for.  It’s pretty enough, but it doesn’t really convey smoke, fire and ashes, now does it?  I think if I was going to repeat the mani, I would skip the glitter and would marble on a black smoke effect polish like Catrice Million Styles No Smoke Without Fire.  Still, it was a cool way for me to celebrate a game I had waited to materialise for over a decade!  Are any of you gamers?  If so, did you play Diablo II or III?  I hope you did!

I used Nina Ultra Pro Lovestruck, Laval Red Glitter, Claire’s Matte Black and Cover Band Sticks ‘n’ Stones to create this look.

  3. I actually do think it looks sooty/smoky, so I think you hit what you were going for! I’m not a big fan of the black/white glitters myself, but to represent falling ashes like this? It’s awesome. GREAT job here!
